Crowns protect teeth that have been badly weakened by damage or decay, or have needed root canal treatment. They sit on top of the tooth, which is why they are often called 'caps', creating a hard, replacement cover that shields the exposed tooth beneath from further harm, while improving its overall appearance.
Crowns can be fitted to what's left of an original tooth, or attached to dental implants (Link) when there's no tooth left.
Choice of materials
And though most of our patients choose porcelain crowns because they look natural and blend in with other teeth, you can have them made in materials, such as - gold, porcelain, alloy and ceramic - so you can choose one that fits your needs or for a distinctive look.
A simple treatment
Fitting a crown normally needs a couple of visits to us while we first clean up the existing tooth and reshape it to receive its crown, or fit a dental implant. For your next visit, we'll have the crown ready for you to check. If it's OK, then we'll cement it in place.
Long lasting
If you treat your new crown like your normal teeth, brushing, flossing and rinsing regularly, it could last you 15 years or more.
If you have a damaged tooth and want to know more about how crowns can protect it while improving its appearance, call Glow Dental on 020 7223 7096 and we can arrange an initial consultation.
