, Dental Health Resolutions For 2017

You may not know it but dental health is an important part of your overall health and while you are making those other resolutions for 2017 we thought you might like to include some dental resolutions too. These might be as simple as resolving to brush properly and more often to getting that treatment that you should have had long ago, or making more regular dental appointments. Knowing the benefits that you will get from your new good habits can be a great motivator! Here are some suggestions.

Improving your tooth brushing and your flossing

There are a couple of easy ways to improve your dental health, quite simply. Brushing your teeth daily and flossing are great ways to start on the road to great dental health. When you brush you should do so twice a day with the right kind of toothbrush, and your dentist or dental hygienist can advise you on which one will be best for you. Electric toothbrushes are more efficient but it is still possible to do a good job with a manual brush. Fluoride toothpaste is good and when you are bushing your teeth you should hold the toothbrush at a forty-five degree angle tilted toward your gum line and then draw the toothbrush over the teeth to remove the plaque.

You need to floss to make sure that at least once every day to remove plaque as well as food that has got lodged in your teeth. Replace your toothbrush or toothbrush head for your electric brush every three to four months, after a cold or if it looks frayed. Mouthwashes are also good at keeping our teeth healthy.

Choosing Healthier Food and Drink

They say that we are what we eat and that is very true for our teeth. Making better choices in what we eat and drink and also on what we snack on can help save our teeth from exposure to acids that lead to tooth decay so you could consider giving you teeth a brush after snacking too. The more you brush the more that your teeth will like it. If you don’t have a toothbrush to hand though, having some sugarless chewing gum with Xylitol to chew will help neutralise the acids and will help cut down the bacteria that cause cavities and plaque build up.

Improve Your Smile

You could also consider other methods to get that smile bright and white for 2017 and some of these would include:

  • Toothpaste for whitening teeth.
  • Bleaching products, professionally applied
  • Bleaching agents.
  • Dentist supplied home-use products.

These simple steps will be great first steps to kick off your New Year resolution and give you the best start to a bright dental future in 2017. Keeping things simple and regular are the best way to keep you on track and keep your teeth healthy for the whole year. Make routine visits to your local dentist and hygienist is also essential to keeping your teeth and gums healthy the whole year through.
